Get the Girl Scout Facts

girl-scout-facts

It is cookie time again. Every year at this time, several organizations use our Girl Scout name to attract attention and solicit donations to further their own agendas. This year, the traffic has increased. Websites, e-mails, and other social media from organizations such as LifeNews.com, the American Family Association, and Pro-Life Waco, provide misinformation about Girl Scouts.

Below are some key facts for you to know and share:

The mission of Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest is to “build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”

  • GSUSA is not WAGGGS (The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).  GSUSA is an autonomous organization, and only GSUSA speaks for GSUSA. WAGGGS does not speak for GSUSA or its other members in the positions it takes.
  • GSUSA and Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest do not endorse any person, organization, political party or politician.
  • GSUSA and Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest do not have a relationship with Planned Parenthood.
  • GSUSA and Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest do not take a position or develop materials on reproductive issues. We feel our role is to help girls develop self-confidence and good
decision-making skills that will help them make wise choices in all areas of their lives.
  • 100% of the money that Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest and its troops raise through the Girl Scout Cookie Program stays within the council and its troops. (Click here for our Cookie Flyer for more facts on the Girl Scout Cookie Program)
  • Do you want to know what Girl Scouts is really about? Ask a girl! She will enthusiastically explain her experiences serving her community, meeting new friends, and discovering scholarly or professional interests.

 Yours in Scouting,

Diane Flanagan
CEO, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest
